Background & Timetable
The Statutory requirement for Certificates for buildings started to be phased in on 6 April 2008. From 1 October 2008 they are required for all buildings.
EPCs (Energy Performance Certificates) are now required for the construction, sale or rent of all buildings. A full size example EPC is available here.
DECs (Display Energy Certificates) are required for all public buildings with a 
"useful" floor area over 1,000 m2.
DECs must be prominently displayed and are accompanied by an advisory report containing recommendations for improvents in energy efficiency. Click here to download a full size example DEC.
The governments intention is to raise awareness of energy use amongst visitors to public buildings.
Here is how the timetable has evolved:
Obtaining the Certificates
Energy Certificates and the accompanying advisory reports can only be produced by Accredited Assessors. The cost of the surveys and the preparation of the certificates and reports inevitably varies according to the size and nature of the building(s) and energy using equipment involved.
Completion of a simple questionnaire is all that is necessary for one of our Accredited Assessors to provide a quotation, without obligation.

The questionnaire should be answered by the person with - or who has access to - the most complete knowledge of the building(s) and energy using equipment involved. Typically, this will be a facilities, building services, energy or asset manager.
When completed, the questionnaire (one for each building or site for which an energy certificate is required) should be returned to Watt-Knots by email, fax or post to:
